The 23nd annual Charcoal Challenge BBQ Cook-off is set for May 16th, 17th and 18th at the Lee County Fair Grounds. This year’s teams will be gathering to show off our best our red, white, and blue as we celebrate “OLD GLORY” for a chance to win some of the more than $5,000 in cash and other prizes on Friday and Saturday!
DJ Johnny Condell will get the party started Friday morning at 10:00 AM playing your favorite tunes. The Jackpot competition begins at 4:00 pm when the cooks bring their beans to be judged at the main tent! At 5:30 pm is the open category – lots of tasty dishes are turned in - you never know what the cooks will come up with to taste! The Chief Cooks will gather at 6:00 pm to get their instructions and containers for Saturday’s rounds. Margarita judging will take place at 7:00 PM. Some delicious margaritas are turned in! Winners will be announced at 8:30 PM. If you love beans or anything goes or margaritas, please come out Friday afternoon to sign up to be a judge in one of these categories!
The Jackpot Bloody Mary Competition begins at 10:00 AM on Saturday. The Junior Division’s Pork Chop Flop and Mop and Small Fry Burger Burn also gets underway Saturday morning with judging at 11:30 AM for the little cooks! DJ Johnny Condell will be back onstage Saturday all day taking requests! Get your request list ready!
Chicken judging begins at 11:00 AM, followed by ribs at 1:00 PM and Brisket at 3:00 PM. The cook’s skills will be tested to get their meats seasoned, grilled and turned in for judging on time!
Come on out Friday and Saturday to one of the best BBQ COOK-OFFS around! The final awards will be at 5:30 PM when the winners are announced for the Kid’s Bicycle Giveaway, Raffle Drawings, the Coolest Pits and last but not least, the winners of the meat categories and Reserve and Grand Champions!
